Highway Patrol Job ShadowFor my job shadow, I did it on an officer from the Highway Patrol Office in Porterville California. My job shadow was on April 28, 2016. I choose my job shadow on Highway Patrol Officer because that job was grabbing my attention. It was done in Porterville and I had my ride along for several minutes around Porterville going towards Terra Bella.
Once I got to the office to start my job shadow I got taken into an office where I saw a video on how it is to become a Highway Patrol Officer. In the academy they are physically trained and are also expected to treat others with respect. Also, they are trained for pursuits and how to react to a shooter. I learned what every point on their badge mean. It was exciting when I got in the car to go for my ride along because it is amazing how much technology those cars have. The officer I was with received a call for backup and we went over to help another officer while he was searching a car that was going to be towed away. Then we pulled over a van because the driver was driving on the shoulder, but he had everything ok and we released with no problem. Before my ride along was over, we were going back to the department and there was a black Nissan 350z that was speeding and we also pulled it over. Once the officer asked the driver why she was speeding her answer was because an M&M fell under her seat and she was trying to get it. She got a speeding ticket and also a ticket for having polarized windows. After being with a CHP for a while and getting a better look and some experience of their job, I have gotten more interested in becoming a Correction Officer for prisons now. For that I will be joining an academy for six months. I did not lose interest in this job because I didn’t like it but it’s because I have gotten motivated to become a Correction Officer now and also my friends are going to do it to and that motivates me even more. |
